This is really beautiful. The story behind it makes it even more beautiful. I love wreaths, button collages, and shadow boxes= I love this. Wisting.

With tears welling and spilling over . . .

My grandmother and I always had a very special relationship.  I was born in Cuba (my father was stationed at Guantanamo Bay) and it was almost a year before my grandmother first saw me - her first grandchild from her only child.  During this time she was very ill with skin cancer.  She told me that she prayed just to live long enough to meet her granddaughter.   Although I've never had a close relationship with my mother, my grandmother was the sun, moon and stars all rolled into one.  She taught me to cook, how to set the table and to polish furniture.  I spent summers with her helping plant flowers and hang laundry out to dry.  The first thing I remember sewing was a little cloth pouch made from the ends my grandmother cut off a pair of hemmed pants edged with some flat lace.  She passed away three years ago, thirty years after that first meeting, and still to this day, at random times out of the blue, I am hit with an acute sense of loss and the heartache of missing her.

Your words, your beautiful project of memory and love and that perfect poem brought me to another of those moments.

Oh, and that childhood sewing project . . . as we collected the clothing and jewelry for my grandmother's viewing and funeral I went to the guest bedroom where I had spent so many childhood hours and retrieved the red and black pouch from the drawer of the bedside table, where my grandmother had kept it all these years.

Sorry for the length of this post . . . you brought those memories to the surface and I wanted to share how your project affected me.

I love this!  When I read your post it made me think of my own MeMe, who passed about a year and a half ago.  I as well cried a bit.  I just wish I had something as special of hers to do something so awesome with!

Very very touching... thoughtful, well-made, & all around wonderful! This is one of the best things I've read in ages. Made me think of my Nana & how much I miss her.
