I originally sculpted this crocodile with its mouth open; it looked pretty awesome. But then tragedy struck. While it was being bisque fired the mouth collapsed and then got stuck in a closed position. I was sad, but decided to glaze it anyways. I was happy with how the glaze turned out and my teacher put it on display. Then a second tragedy struck. Someone touched it and the already fragile crocodile mouth collapsed a little more. This cracked some of the top and left little pieces of unglazed clay exposed. So I did my best to epoxy it back together, and that's what you see here. I'm still pretty happy with it, but it could have been GLORIOUS had the mouth stayed open. C'est la vie.

and here are the scales that I meticulously put on one by one. It took forever, but I think it was worth it.

he still looks awesome despite his multiple  mishaps.
hes really well sculpted and i like the way you have used the crackle glaze to give the appearance of scaled skin in this piece.

*That* is fabulous!!!!! I'm always afraid to try big sculptures because I know how crushed I'd be if they collapsed :-(

I stick to the wheel, and things collapse *anyway*! I can't win! ;-)

It's gorgeous! I would've never known about the breakages had you not said anything. You could always tie a bandage around him with a faux ice pack and pretend you meant it to happen Wink

It's too bad that it collapsed.. but that's clay for you.  You never know what the exact outcome will be, I try to not get too attached to ANYTHING that I make.. at least until it's completely finished.. haha.

Your croc is amazing! and wow, perfect choice of glaze for the croc's skin!
