I'm not quite sure this is the right place to post this project, though I thought as it is something for our home, and will be enjoyed (hopefully) by more than just the new baby (due in a month!!!) AND will live in our bedroom, I would put it here.  Wink

As we are proud Kiwis, I wanted to make something with native animals, and since all our native animals are birds, it made sense to make a bird themed mobile! The photos are not the best, as we just got given a camera today after I had just this avo finished the project, and basically I couldnt wait to post it, so here is is!

Stupid bad nighttime lighting! The frame is just 18g wire- its a little flimsy, so I might re-do the frame depending on how it hangs after a while. The birds are just cardboard cut outs covered in fabric. I wanted to use natural-ish colours, hence the blues and browns. The best part is that all the fabric was scraps that I (or my MIL) had lying around!

Little Blue Penguin and Kea

Huia (Sadly now extinct. This one is a female because of her long beak)

Karearea (NZ Falcon)

Last but not least, the humble Pukeko

Overall the project would have cost me maybe $5? And thats probably just the cost of the glue.  Grin  Gotta love cheap projects!

Thanks all  Smiley

I love this! It's great to see baby stuff that's not pastel! Did you use something (like maybe cardboard) to keep the fabric stiff? Great job!

This is FABULOUS! My sister is trying to have a baby and I'm hoping she will let me make her baby something like this.
How do you plan to hang it above the crib?

Very cute! I have to agree, I love it when I see an item for a baby that isnt drenched it pastel and fluffy bears and sutch  Tongue Plus, I love all of your birdy friends (and the fact that you actually know what species they all are! Yay for smart crafting!)  Grin

What is this "normal" you talk about? Is it contagious? OMG! Stay away! Don't touch me! I might catch your normal!
