My husband's family had a big family reunion. I built them a cornhole game because what's a picnic without a little cornhole, right?

I built the boards. This is my first woodworking project since 7th grade shop class so the construction may be a little rough around the edges.

I sewed the bean bags from fabric in my stash. I made a liner using fabric from an old set of cotton curtains.

I filled the bean bags with dried beans instead of the traditional dried feed corn.

Nice! I've been wanting to make this game for a while, but don't have the woodworking tools. Great job!

I made the mistake of googling "cornhole" several years ago when I was looking for instructions for making my own boards... I WON'T  be making that mistake again lol  Embarrassed

Awesome job!  Makes me want to build a set so I can have some summer fun as well. Tongue

I didn't actually know anyone called it cornhole until a couple of years ago when a friend moved to Ohio!  (I'm in Wisconsin)  Guess it's a regional thing - I've mostly called it "bean bag toss"  (so generic sounding!  Doesn't have the quirky flavor that "cornhole" has) so if you need to google instructions again, that might be a safe phrase to search on...  Cheesy

That's so cute, and I love the summery colors! One of our friends spent like $50 on a cornhole game with his university name printed on it. He could have just made his own with a little creativity!  Wink

My hubby was just looking for plans to build this game over the weekend.  Turns out there's an Official Cornhole Association website!  Who knew?  They got official plans for the board, for sewing the bags and a list of the rules!

http://playcornhole.org/

I think I'd get drummed out of the family if I filled our bags with anything but corn! We live in rural MN and have lots of farmers in our family!

But it does make me think that I should secretly just add one or two of something odd, like a coffee bean, and see if that will put a hex on it!  LOL!  And only I'll know it's there and I'll make sure I don't use that one and I can WIN all the games.  Wink  Mwwahahahahaha!  Seeings how I really suck at playing the game...this could be my only chance at victory!  Grin JK!

I love the colors you painted your game.  Excellent job!

Nope. It's really called cornhole. I guess because they traditionally used dried feed corn for the bean bags. I Googled How to Make a Cornhole Game and got what I was looking for ifyaknowwhatImean  Wink

To purchase a premade board is crazy expensive. The checkout woman at Lowes told me some people pay up to a $100 for a cornhole game. I spent about that but that included buying a new belt sander. Which I L.O.V.E. I named her Sweet Baby Jane* because once I fired her up sweet baby Jane! It took no time at all to sand the rough edges.

*They name boats. I name my power tools.
