Have probably been done before, but I just love making them - I'm addicted!  Cheesy Idea is from this fab book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stray-Sock-Sewing-One-Kind/dp/0715330160/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278692345&sr=8-1 stray sock sewing, by Dan Ta - only I like to give my sock puddies a tail to swish, and I love the variety of expressions that appear with each one - totally unpredictable personalities, just like real kitties!  Cheesy

So simple to make - I use stuffing from a new pillow instead of toy stuffing - much cheaper! You need a pair of trainer socks or trainer liners as they may be called - the type of sock that stops below the ankle. One sock makes the puddy - stuff it to shape, use the heel of the sock for the cat's face, and sew the ankle of the sock in a slight curve, to form the ear shapes. The other sock makes the arms - cut off the toe, then cut in half and you have 2 arms....and the tail - use the curve in the heel for the kink in the tail - sew with right sides together, turn and stuff and sew on very firmly.  Then have fun embroidering a face on!  Cheesy I used a hair elastic for the collar on the first one, but ribbon is cute too!

thanks everyone  Cheesy I have a bunch of new pink spotty/stripey/hearts little girls socks to do next - I'm thinking a litter of kittens for the 'mummy sock' - some ladies grey socks with multi coloured pastel hearts on  Cheesy

and yes I prefer that second sock puddie I posted above - he's just so much fatter and cuddlier looking, and his face is cuter - he was my firstborn though, so maybe that's it!  Cheesy

Very cute!  These must be pretty small if you're using ankle socks.  I can't get an idea of scale from the picture.

When I saw this post, I recognized your puddy!  I had just finished looking through that book.  I bought it last year.  I'm in the sockimal making mood right now.  I'll post my latest venture tomorrow.  Your puddies are soo cute!
