Thanks for the compliments everyone! I really appreciate it
This is an awesome dress. It turned out great. What does the back of it look like?
The back of it has two straps that attach to halter strap. Here is a link to the drawing on the back of the pattern: http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m4444-products-368.php?page_id=108
. You could also make the dress without the back straps and just have it be a traditional halter top. I like the way the back straps look though.
Besides what you mentioned with the strap, you found the pattern was well explained and well-made? Did you have to make any alterations?
I cut out the size out 8 pattern for everything. This was based on the measurements on the back of the pattern. I was almost going to cut out a size 10 because I was borderline on some of the measurements, but I got optimistic about the 8
. In any case, the bust and halter top fit fine, not too small and not too big. I did let out the side and back seams in the dress about 1/2". If I had used the size 10 pattern, it would have been about a perfect fit, but then I would have had to take the bust in a slightly.
The other thing I did was use elastic to gather the bodice. The directions called for you to sew with a large stitch and then pull the threads to gather. However, the bodice is pretty bulky and the threads broke when I was gathering it. Instead, I took some 1/2" elastic, stretched it out alone the gathering line in the bodice, and then sewed it down. When the elastic retracted, it made the gathers.
I think the pattern explains things pretty well. The pictures definitely helped me out!
ive always wanted to try this pattern. how was the bust line for you? ive never done anything like this before
The bust line turned out fine. I am about a 36B and I used the size 8 on the pattern.
