Hi all!

I've always been a wannabe weaver but I am trying to start on the cheap just to see if I like it enough to invest in supplies.

I read and utilized the Weavezine Backstrap Basics tutorial here: http://weavezine.com/content/backstrap-basics to create the "loom" and I studied all the videos too, very carefully.

All was going well until I tried to actually start weaving. Well actually, I had a bit of trouble trying to set up the warp keeping tension even so I had to play around with that to start. But then off to the races!

Then, following the tutorial, I created the string heddle and then the shed loop, which I believe I did correctly.

Problem is when I tried to do the first set up for the first pass of the weft.....couldn't get the "cross" that appeared to happen when the lady who wrote the tutorial lifted the shed loop and then the string heddle and push the tension down to the bottom of the work. I didn't get that, my heddle just migrated to the bottom of the work.

What am I doing wrong? (I also used peaches'n'cream cotton if that helps) Is it a tension issue (maybe start with a smaller warp?) or a heddle and shed loop issue? Or am I just crap?  Undecided

Thanks for any and all help!

I use Peaches and Cream all the time. I just started another backstrap project.

Did you wind your warp with a figure eight pattern?

That's how the "cross" is created in the warp.

You can see more about backstrap weaving on my blog

You can also see more about backstrap weaving on Laverne's blog

Laverne's blog can be very advanced.

My blog tends to be more primitive.

Have a good day!
