a few months ago, my best friend and i decided to join the competition in our area known as Kinetic Koture. its a trash fashion show put on by Kinetic Universe, Inc as a fundraiser for the great Kinetic Grand Championship. i won last year, which earned me the title of Trashonista Gloriosa the First (it was the first year we held the event, haha)

however, i wanted to show off what we did this year. the super-awesome pics are from a photoshoot by my friend Charles McNally (http://www.flickr.com/photos/fervus), the rest are from us throughout the process.

this is us, christa in her Target Bag Dress (ironed/fused plastic) and i am in my Organic Quinoa Jumper (Quinoa bags, spray paint and duct tape)

im starting the detail at the bottom of the dress

after the blue layer

doing the copper highlights

this is my first outfit, backstage at the Koture. pineapple sunglasses, jumper, wax cardboard roman-style sandal boots, and recycled crocheted purse (purse NOT made by me)

this is a shot of our other outfits for koture (yes, we had 2 totally different looks), photo by fervus. i love christa's creepy outfit, this is more of the ironed (fused) plastic, with window screen.

and this is my DANGER dress. i used danger tape from all of the condemned/unsafe buildings in our Humboldt County earthquake in January. stitching it all together was kinda a pain, but well worth it! i used a zig-zag stitch, and just made sure to line up the red bias stripe, and im glad i did! it looks AWESOME

here's the DANGER dress in action, Kinetic Grand Championship 2010, as Race Director Royal Blue Laroo (*this* photo, courtesy of C Hoff Designs)

This is awesome! I think my favorite is the danger dress--it doesn't look plastic at all! And the spray-painted trim is such a cool technique--I wonder if it would work on a regular dress...

YES ive done it before on wife-beaters and normal jersey. the only thing is to make sure you hold the stencil down, otherwise it gets fuzzy.

The danger dress is my absolute favorite! Cheesy! I love it so much :3!
Although, the first jumper is a close second....
I love the painting you did on the hem.

here's more on my dresses.  the target dress was inspired by a bag i saw on craftster.  i decided to use both sides of the target bags for some interest (right side out, inside out).

to avoid zippers, and for added flare, i added grommets and laced up the back with rope.

the kimono styled belt is made with fused black trash bags.

i also used the black trash bags to make the second dress and the bolero. i found some window screen and painstakingly attached it to the bolero--it was one of those ideas that one gets when one is falling asleep.  i knew i MUST MAKE IT HAPPEN.

These are so cool! I love the danger tape one! I wish I had some police line tape. that would be cool.
