Hello all - I've got a question for the crock pot fans out there. I've made oatmeal in the crockpot and I've made baked oatmeal with eggs, and I love them both. So I'm wondering, can you make oatmeal in the crockpot with eggs for extra protein?  or would it be really gross? For the crockpot I just throw in a couple of coups of steel cut oats and 4x as much water (sometimes replacing some of the water with apple juice which is delicious!), sometimes adding sugar/brown sugar/honey and cinnamon. I've heard you can also put in raisins or other dried fruit, but I'm not a big fan of dried fruit. '
so what do you think? eggs? no eggs? is there any other way to add protein to oatmeal?

I have never had oatmeal with eggs before, so I can't recommend either way. If you want more protein, you could use milk or nuts. I usually use the microwave for my oatmeal and throw in walnuts. After it comes out I mix in some plain lowfat yogurt. As for dried fruit, raisins are ok, but I prefer frozen fruit like strawberries or blueberries. I wouldn't use them in a crockpot though.

I've never made oatmeal with egg, or in a crockpot. But yeah, to add protien, add chopped almonds or walnuts or pecans. I do like that.
Milk instead of water. You could also add dry powdered milk, but I don't know how that would affect the taste. Maybe make a small batch, and add just a spoonfull, see how that works? Or soy powder-never added it into oatmeal, but that would up the protien, too.

I've had oatmeal custard before (adding milk and eggs). Just make sure you mix the eggs very well with the liquid so you don't end up with scrambled eggs.
