The other day during my kids' nap I started playing around with some felt and some ribbon and made a little sketchbook kit as a gift for a young friend. I was inspired by this tutorial, although I made up my own construction as I went. (Mine's a little bigger, too.)

The ribbon helps the felt not stretch out with use, and I just sewed a simple pocket with dividers for the pencils. After a little applique and cutting a decorative edge, I added some new pencils and a sketchbook and called it done.

Now that I've worked through how to do it, I think I will be keeping these in mind for gifts, especially given my desire to clear out some of the piles of felt I've got sitting around.... Thanks for looking!

Oh wow! My daughter would love this. I think I will use it for inspiration for a gift for her.

Great job, I love how practical it is.

Is there anywhere for an eraser in the kit?

@kjlutz, the pencils I bought actually have erasers on the ends, so no, I didn't make a place for an eraser. Wouldn't be hard to add one if you wanted.

LOL They're just Crayola. I think they're brand new, because they were advertising the erasers as a new, cool feature. Smiley
