I honestly think I could be certified as insane for having done this. During the busiest year of my life, I decided to make my own dress for a Senior Ball that happened to take place the weekend before my most important A.P. test. Add in that I'd never designed an entire garment from scratch, hadn't draped anything before, and didn't even have a dress form - and yeah, I'm insane.

But here it is! I'm really am so happy that I did it. Even if it nearly gave me a nervous break-down. The craftsmanship isn't great, obviously, given the time restraints and my inexperience, but I'm still pretty happy with how it turned out.

So, voila, my one-week Odyssey.

(Some of the embarrassing clutter in the background has been blurred to protect its identity.)

Thanks for looking, I hope you guys like it! ^^

Wow, I really like it! Love your color scheme! And for your first time with something of that difficulty, I think you actually did very very well! ((Yay, first comment!))

Your dress is beautiful!  Wow, well done.  The colours, the texture and the shape are all fabulous!

Two questions.  How do you get into it (invisible zipper?) and how does it stay up (a lot of strong interfacing?)

Congratulations on a beautiful dress!

Don't sell yourself short. Your dress is beautiful. Kudos for draping it yourself. I haven't tried draping yet, too many tools to buy and no money to buy them...Anyway, rock that dress out! You deserve it! Grin

Thank you so much, everyone! Your comments are all so supportive, I really appreciate the feedback. ^_^

craftypanties: It does have an invisible zipper on the other side. As for staying up - that was a real stroke of luck! Time got really tight at the end, so I didn't have time to line and bone it like I'd been intending to. As it turned out, though, it was fitted enough that it just stayed up of its own accord. I think it helped that the fabric was all quite light - the drapery really didn't add much to the weight at all.

amalgam: Thanks! Cheesy You should definitely give draping a shot, I found it to be really, really fun. If money's an issue, you might consider making a duct/paper tape dummy. They're not perfect, but mine was a lifesaver!
