I learned to crochet last September and swore up and down that I would never in a million years make a stupid doily.  Never say never.  I've found myself searching for doily patterns!!  Ack!!  Well, I bit the bullet and made one and here she is, my very first doily...

This is a scan of the doily with a construction paper background to make it stand out.  I don't have a digital camera.  Anyhoo, this was done before it was washed and blocked and starched and all that mess.  I've since framed it and put it on a black background and it will go to my grandmother for Mother's Day.

I hate to admit it - but I love making doilies too!  I always feel like a little old lady when I'm crocheting them. Smiley

It's gorgeous! There's nothing wrong with feeling a little old-lady like once in a while!
How long did it take, may I ask? I've always been too lazy to crochet with thread...

I think it's lovely! I've always thought doilies were so pretty, we need to get rid of the old lady tie that they seem to have. Then everyone would be free to love doilies openly.

Doilies are really fun to make. I love working with teeny thread and hooks.

You can always make them in other colors, too. So they aren't so grannyish. I made a small one that was black with red flowers. There's lots of wild varigated colors of thread out there, too. Doilies don't have to be boring. Smiley

Your doily is really pretty, btw.  Cool

I've made a few doilies in my time, too.  They're really good for perfecting your techniques... problem is, I'm not really a "doily person".  My taste in decor runs more towards Ikea... Smiley
