**Update: Formal pictures!! yay!

You can actually see the purple all the way around the bottom on this one!

The best friend and I...pretty much explains our relationship Smiley

Annndd the back....

haha oh and my bow-ed shoes that I had entirely too much fun walking around in...
Just some black peeptoes with the same purple tulle from my dress tied on.

And because I just couldnt stop...the flipflops I made for the after party Wink

**Original post Smiley

Do all home schoolers even have prom?

No, actually, they don't...they have formals, which is kinda like prom, minus the drinking, dancing, limos and other prommy stuff...lol ANYWAY.

Okay, I'm homeschooled and yes, we are having a formal this year...the catch?

*duh duh duh*

Yaaaay! And not just any dress code people, we're talking borderline Amish here. Okay not really, but our dresses have to be at least knee length, the neckline can be no lower than 2 inches below the collar bone, and the straps must be a minimum of 2 inches across. SO where do you find such a dress, pray tell? Uhmmm, the short answer? You don't. Or if you do, it is out of your grandmum's closet, which isn't acceptable. So I made my own Smiley

(I would like to say that I do actually appreciate our school having a dress code, as I have been in some schools where there is none...and come away permanently scarred...^.^)

SO without further ado...

Here was my original sketch. I ended up modifying it quite a bit..so ignore almost all the writing...and sadly, the part about my hair being blue Sad

The pickup skirt idea was not in the original planning, but it turned out being one of my favorite parts of the dress....and these were me experimenting with strap designs and bust area designs...

The only thing I really ended up using was the top right design for the back Smiley

And the dress itself... (I am sorry in advance, these are the only (pretty shoddy) pictures I've taken of the dress so far; never fear, Formal is this Saturday and there will be pictures a plenty...hopefully...I was just so excited about sharing this Smiley )

Cruddy mirror shot...

And my very, very favorite part...the back. Also the part that literally had me in tears trying to get it right. I had it almost perfect when my fool of a hedgehog tried to jump off my bed...I dove for the hedgehog and managed to rip out half of the criss crossing in the process. Not. Cool. lol

Since it was my senior year, I wanted to kinda...push the envelope a tad...and I figured what better way than an outlandish clown-colored dress??
The dress is a crepe-backed black satin...very pretty, but THICK and heavy as all get out! Oh my word! The colored parts are tulle...I gathered...so...much..TULLE! AHH. I didn't use a pattern (which I cursed many a time late at night, in between screaming at my sewing machine, my hedgehog, and myself lol) and there is an invisible zipper on the side.

I love it!  I was homeschooled too...but didn't have a prom to go to.  I went to my ex's instead.  I still have the dress, and I've been thinking about cutting it up to make something different.
PS. kudos about catching the hedgehog!

That dress is AMAZING!  I was home schooled too, but I never went to any formals.

Such an awesome dress! Even more amazing without a pattern. Looks so great, you'll be the hit at the formal!

Very cute!  I really love the rainbow tulle, you did a great job. Too bad your mom didn't go for the blue hair

Ahh yes! Home schoolers ftw! I'm homeschooled too, and I went to a formal last year. Didn't make my dress though, and it wasn't NEARLY as awesome as yours. I'm in love with this dress! It's SO, so, so, so cute!
