I got this jewelry box for my birthday a couple of months ago... and I don't like it it. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but ya know, if you're going to give somebody something for their birthday, at least do a few things: 1) Find out a little about their interests and then find them something within those interests, and 2) take the dollar store tag off the bottom of it.

I think it's boring. It's not my style at all. I'm not a floral, fancy stuff kind of gal.

I thought about just regifting it, but I don't know of anybody to regift it to. So I want to do something with it to make it... better. But I'm not sure what. Decoupage? Repaint it with wilder colors? Glue stuff to it until I get bored and throw it in the trash?

What do you think?

Paint the roses white and make them eyeballs.  Paint like a beak the bottom pointy bit of the heart shape.  Build little wings out of cut plastic or card stock and attach them at either side of the box.  Paint the rest of the box whatever color you like.  You now have your very own owl box.  It could be as realistic or wacky as you prefer, and simple or complex in terms of accent/detail painting.

what i do with things like this (and i get them lots since everyone knows i like crafting stuff) is break out the nail polish, model or ceramic paint (depending on the mood and type/content of item) and get busy... but you could do lots with this, glue on a hinge, line with velvet, steampunk it up with gears and such and metallic paint, put silk flowers on top etc... make it your own!

If you really hate it, I'd just give it to charity, or spray paint the whole thing your favourite colour.

Well that wouldn't be very fun Wink

I'm liking the owl idea... I didn't think of that! (obviously) That could be a fun way to go...

You should paint it black and red and creepy and put a tiny zombie army made of clay or amigurumis or beads or whatever your craft of choice is (or one of each) inside! Super fun!

Or, SMASH IT TO BITS and use the pieces to make jewelry or a mosaic project or something cool like that.
