Where is my Cosmo?

View Profile
« on: April 01, 2010 04:20:04 AM »

My younger daughter is heading off to college in the fall. I have been wracking my brain trying to come up with inexpensive, thoughtful gifts from home to give her for graduation. Here's my first project: it's eco-friendly, which she'll love. I took some old toilet paper rolls, and with a little hot glue, attached them to a cardboard base. I wrapped them in some scrapbook paper from my stash, and with a few embellishments, ended up with this really cute desk organizer. I added a couple of silk flowers, some sparkly beads and rhinestones, and some cute wooden feet. Oh, and to celebrate her favorite team, I added "go colts". She'll love that.

Here is an "in progress" pic:

It's cute, but not special. Mr. 'Coo said it needed more glitz.

And here's what I ended up with: finished, with supplies!

What do you think? C & C welcome!

go colts.

EDIT:
I fixed the spelling. Photo on page 3.  Grin

I love how you attached them to the base--is that glitter glue?

uhm, just one small criticism--you mispelled "scissors" Wink--it would be easy to fix, though...

Aw, dangit! After she leaves for school today, I'll have to fix that.

Thanks so much for letting me know, how embarrassing would that be for me to give that to a college girl? She would die!  Embarrassed

I can totally see this perched on her desk in her dorm!  All of the glitz and sparkle really brought it together as a finished project.

Do you recall where you got the pink polka dot flower??  It would be perfect for a project I'm working on right now.

Make sure that's packaged up really carefully; it's be a shame if it suffered any water damage, or something.

Thanks, I'm so flattered! These are really easy and fun to make, though. I'll pm you.  Wink

EDIT:
I fixed the spelling! (Durh!) I was going to paste an "o" over the "e", but the stamps I used were so small that it was hard. Since an "e" is nice and round, I just made it into an "o" with a marker. It stood out a bit too much, so I made some of the other letters bold to match. What do you think? Too obvious a coverup?  Undecided

Love it!  So creative!  One quick question - where do you buy the different length toilet paper rolls?  I checked my local markets and they all seem to be approximately the same length.  Thanks in advance.

Actually, I started out with all the rolls the same size. I cut the tops off with an x-acto blade to give them a bit of staggered height. I wish I had had some laser scissers scissOrs, though. That would have rocked.
