Just wanted to point out that April is Autism Awareness month and it would be neat to make something to raise money for your local organization. (like if you have a Etsy shop or craft booth or even just sell to friends) One national organization I like that has local chapters is the Autism Society of America. http://www.autism-society.org/site/PageServer?pagename=stateresources

I can personally vouch for how helpful and friendly my local ASA is. They go out of their way to include not just parents, but also people like me who are on the Autism spectrum. They provide a free resource library for anybody (Which some books can be over $40, so this library is very helpful to families), advocate for increased services to families and individuals, spread awareness, provide respite, offer support and social activities, and much more. I really respect them and feel they respect me. (I've been included just as much as doctors and parents)

If you need any info about autism, want ideas, or just want to chat, feel free to contact me. I'm new to Craftster, but I blog at http://www.shesmorethananumber.blogspot.com

Blogger, crafter, autistic, advocate, Christian...all wrapped into one splendid package!

If you have a question about Autism, ask me. I don't bite.

Are any places accepting crafty donations or doing any craft shows?

I'm not sure of other chapters, but mine isn't. It wouldn't hurt to ask; many have fairs in April.

There is a neat tool to find out though:
http://www.autism-society.org/site/PageServer?pagename=1Power_LandingPage which will let you find local events or start your own; and not just in April.

The main reason I suggest the Autism Society of America is because I feel they are helpful and respect all parts of the autism community. There is a bit of politics in the autism community; but they just want to help everybody; whether you're on the spectrum, a parent, teacher, or anybody else involved.

My suggestion if you decide on another organization is to carefully research and make sure you agree with their goals and methods; as they can be so drastically different. For example; Generation Rescue is very anti-vaccine and advocates alternative treatments (and tends not be autistic friendly); while an organization like GRASP mainly helps adults with Asperger's Syndrome and in my experience is not very parent friendly. (I'm not a parent, I have just attended their meetings and found that to be so)

I apologize if I offend anybody, I tried to make that sound as neutral as I could. I just feel it is important to know what exactly you're supporting and not find out in the media two months later you supported something you don't agree with.
