So a few years ago I went to my first ren faire and I bought a dress it's kind of like a vest and I wanted to now the era of the dress, sadly I can't upload any pics of it but it's green looks like a very long  vest and the bodice laces. Can someone tell me what era it is so I can make a better costume?

That'd probably be a surcote, from the 10th to the 16th century.  The exact shape will determine which century it's meant to be for.  So search under "surcote" or "surcoat" and look at the various styles and their dates.

It might not be at all accurate for the later centuries:  http://www.pennib.net/FeoragDubh/Nutshell_2004-03/sideless_surcote.htm
