I NEED ideas... BIG TIME!  MY best friend is moving away (from Michigan) and I wanted to make her a Michigan in a Box so she can remember Michigan AND the good times we had together here.  Does anyone have any ideas about what to put in the box about Michigan?  ALL IDEAS are appreciated so greatly.  Thanks everyone!  Smiley

i don't know much about michigan, but my friend recently celebrated a birthday and I gave her our friendship in a box. she loved it. if you can't come up with things for michigan in a box.. maybe friendship in a box? put in items that will remind her of a specific memory or joke or something. that way when she's far away she can remember you  Smiley

Well, we live near Ann Arbor, MI, which is in Western Michigan down in the southern part of the state, too.  Thanks for your ideas so far.

this is kinda corny, but i was born in MI and everyone there was hardcore kellogs. you could get that variety pack of small boxes of cereal and put it in there. you could also buy some cheap white mens undershirts and iron on transfer paper and print stuff and iron on things like "i love michigan" or something goofy like that.

you have a lot of projects/presents going on right now don't you! Wink

Whoo-hoo Ann Arbor!
Kilwin's chocolates...
There's 2 MI stores on Main St. downtown.
Cherries from Traverse City, Vernors, Red Wings, Pistons, Tigers, U-M, MSU...
Steve & Barry's on State St. has U-M stuff on the cheap, there's one on Grand River in East Lansing w/MSU stuff...
Motown, White Stripes, Aretha, Bob Seeger. Not my favorites, but Eminem, Kid Rock, d-12...

All the goo we use, reviewed!

If she is over 21 Michigan has wonderful vineyards, a bottle of wine. Every fall my family goes apple picking, you could put apples or a apple desert in the box. My Grandpa lives in Cololma, MI and as kids we would go to Deer Forest, a postcard from there?

Hope that helps.

get here a pair of mittens since we all point to our hand to show where we live! (if you aren't from MI you probably might not get the joke.) Also buy a bunch of postcards and you can make a scrapbook of pictures of the two of you (if you have a few)

What else....

I second the cereal thing. And the cherry thing, maybe make her something cool with cherry fabric. I live in the U.P. so if you know what pasties are maybe you can include a recipe for those or something, maybe even a recipe book with michigany recipes or just ones you too liked would be fun too, then whenever she makes one she will think of you!
