Ok, backstory first: last winter (2008) I was pregnant, very risky so I wasn't aloud to do any sewing or crafting whatsoever - taking care for a 1 year old was considered more than enough Wink So new years came and so came cold and my DD had nothing warm to wear. We wanted un overall since they are the most practical winter garment ever. We went to 2 different stores and they didn't have it. I also phoned 2 other stores and NO OVERALL OF THAT SIZE was to be found! I had a dejavu into my childhood in socialism Grin. So - what to do?
my 2. DD rushed things and after she and I were in 2 bodies I could do whatever I pleased - so I sewd Smiley - this overall for my firstborn:

It is made of orange (in case you haven't noticed Grin) waterproof - kind of ruberry - fabric and lined with faux fur. The waterproof fabric is a pain in the ass to work with since it was slippery like hell and the machine feed dogs couldn't grab it and I needed to do quite a lot of topstitching... I was loosing my mind with it but at last decided that it's more important WHEN it's done than HOW it's done - at least for children's clothing - due to the simple fact that they're growing like weeds Cheesy. So the stitching is not perfect - but overall it's not that bad, I hope.

I looked at an OM pattern but than changed everything so it is not that pattern anymore (no snaps at crotch, zipper instead of snaps in front, sewn first part of two front pieces and so on and on and on...).

In action on our first long walk in the national park at the seaside (hense no snow Smiley) The second baby is being carried in a winter sling - I'll post that one later:

PS: I'm sorry for this overload of pics I guess sometimes I have no limit and we just feel like the song says: "every step you make... I'll be watching you" - and photo it Grin

So long!

Here are some this years pics where this same overall is worn by my younger dd (as you can see it holds well although it was really worn a lot - two really cold winters here) - some action photos (the "big kid" is the same as the one on the first photos - she just grew;):

she just started walking here

and it was hard for her to walk outside on the snow:

sister came to help:

PS: if you're interested in the sister's coat, you can find it here:

I am impressed with both your patience and your skill! I take it you also made the sling in which you stashed the other kiddo? Great job on both projects! I don't think I could go 9 months without sewing!!

Love it!  love the style, the colour (never will you lose your kid at the park), the happy child it's wrapped around.  It's fantastic  Smiley

Thank you, all!
vegbee, yes, indeed, I always know where my child is when she's wearing that Wink (although my sight is really not my good point)
But the best thing with this overall is that it TOTALY waterproof (thanks to the "pain-in-the-ass-to-sew" fabric) - so when my littleone gets dirty and we come home I just put the overall on a hanger, zip it up, hang it above the bath and shower it. It looks like new in a few seconds and I really don't have to worry when the kids are playing in mud and water Grin. Also wind is no problem since the child is really "sealed in" Smiley.

elisabethmom, yes, I made the sling as well. You can read about it (and see more pics) if you'd like - here:
It was not whole 9 month - just 6 because at first everything looked fine:) Well, I said I'll make it up when she comes out and I did, hehe.

I updated this topic with the next model so you can pick your favourite Grin. Or see if it works on a different body Wink.
