I am not going to prom, but I made this dress. My friend gave me the idea to do black/purple/silver for a starry night type deal. I got the idea for the skirt from divadivine777 on Etsy. The top (which is connected with snaps to the corset) is from a dress pattern.
Sorry about the crappy cell phone pictures, but I was too lazy to get the camera. I'm lucky I even put the dress on the mannequin to take more photos.
The corset is from Roekthe's tutorial, with a few extra panels in it (I've used her tutorial 3-4 time and always have to add panels. Either I'm messing it up or it's just that I can't corset myself that small without crushing my ribcage.)
Here are the pictures.

The black spots in the back of the skirt are like little pickups. I just twisted the tulle and then sewed it that way. The underlayer has some too. There are also some sequins in the skirt but you can't see them in the photos.

Nice job.

I find with corsetting you really have to mark the pattern with your lowest rib and highest hip, and make most of your reduction within those lines at the waist. I have never used her pattern myself, but if it has you taking all the reduction out equally over the sides... try taking MOST of the reduction off the SIDE pieces, because you arent shaped like a tube. All my corsets and a lot of others are upwards of 6-8 pannels a SIDE, you get more shape i find and control with more pannels.

Check out this site it is a great help http://community.livejournal.com/corsetmakers

It really helped get me through my first corests Smiley
