I finished TWO new Coptic bound Art Journals this weekend!

The covers are canvas boards (4"x6"), each is an original one-of-a-kind using acrylic paint, stamped images and machine stitching.

I use 140#index paper for the signatures because I love how it stands up to layers of paint, collage, ink...you name it, it will take it and not wrinkle!  Grin

I hope they inspire you!

PinkPug,INK - the canvas boards are ideal because you never have to worry about your covers warping! And the variety of sizes is a real plus. The largest I use are the 5"x7" - yet my favorite are the 4"x6" simply because I like working that size.

I didn't know what canvas boards were until I found some in a shop yesterday - I can see why they'd work well as book covers.... that's why I bought a pack and am looking forward to having a go!

I love the bright colours of these books - you've inspired me to have another go at making books now I have boards.

I purchased some canvas panels to use as book covers today to do a journal like the style you've posted (thanks so much for the inspiration btw!). I'm concerned about the holes fraying or becoming bigger with use. 1. Are canvas boards and canvas panels the same? 2. Do you do anything to protect the holes?

Hmmm, I am not sure if 'boards' and 'panels' are one and the same - but I would think so!
I have NEVER had a problem with the holes for the binding. I make them using an awl. I also use WAXED linen thread for binding all my books - so this might make a difference. I have one journal I have worked in for over 4 years and the holes are just as nice as they were when I first made it  Grin
Sorry for my slow responses my computer at home crashed!  Shocked
