I got a fabulous package of altered papers from the recent altered supplies swap. https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=335420.0 (seriously, join this swap if it runs again, it was amazing)

In the set from Casey1201, she was so generous, and she sent me some some great maps. I have wanted to try coptic stitch for ages and I was inspired by these. she wraps each signature in a different paper, so that the 'spine' looks interesting https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=316377.0

so putting the two together I made this sketchbook, the pages are approx A3 (ie twice the size of A4, which is close to the standard US letter size) the covers are currently greyboard and I havent decided yet if I want to change that.

what is really cool is that I have a few map pages in my sketch book (my daughter logically pointed out after that I could just have used strips of the maps to cover the signatures...but I like the map pages)

I think a few pages of maps just adds to the character...great idea for the pages I have saved from old Atlases...one more thing I wish I had sent out to my fellow swappers!!

Oh, I love the map pages mixed in with the sketch pages! I've been wanting to do coptic stitch forever too and I really need to give it a go! I think a solid green or blue for the covers would make the map signatures really pop.

I second Edel- the paper bits swap was the best ever- you should join up for round two!

Dragonflywer the coptic stitch was really easy once I got started, fiddly as I was working with large sheets of paper, i am planning a couple of small books from some more of the paper I got.

The easiest way to learn the stitch btw was youtube. this one is good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BMSrm0QOt0&feature=related
