I've had this image - of a polar bear wearing a ruff - in my head for a long time. I finally made this piece. It's got a thrifted vintage circular frame, with a geological map of the arctic as background. The polar bear is pen and ink and painted acrylic ink on Japanese paper. His ruff is also made of Japanese paper which I sewed with embroidery floss. His coat is a collage of different papers, as is the aurora borealis.

I got interested in the possibilities of white-on-white collage after doing a series of monochromatic chunky page swaps here on craftster!

I really like the white-on-white collage up close, and your image is whimsical and fun.

this is awesome. We get to see the lights when we get up early enough sometimes, and this feels very arctic, and old fashioned to me.

Beautiful and playful at the same time.  I love the monochromatic feel of it.  Nice work.

Thank you very much Dragonflywer, kayliecelery, pixieval and pinokeeo!

Seeing the northern lights is always special I think, pixieval. I don't see them where I live, but I've seen them when in northern Ontario, or when at sea, offshore the west coast of Canada.
