Details of swap (Taken from the original Scrapbook Cookbook Swap):
Do you love to cook?  Would you love some collected/tried and true recipes to add to your own collection?  SIGN UP for this swap!  The plan:

1)   You will purchase one cookbook for your partner OR A Medium Set of Store Bought Kitchen Items  It could be new, thrifted or from a used book store.  Also, try these sites:
The price limit for this is $15.  Try to purchase something in line with your partners tastes.  This item will be medium in size based on the price.
If you cannot afford shipping because a store bought cookbook is too heavy you must include a medium sized set of kitchen items like utensils, small gadgets, salt & pepper shakers, a coffee mug, etc.

2)   You will craft one cookbook. This cookbook will include at least 10 recipes.  Anything that is contained in a book will work, and get creative!  This part should be fun and really display your best crafting skills.  This item will be classified as large based on the amount of crafting time involved.
I have found a lot inspiration in the papercrafts, journals and bookmaking boards on Craftster.  As far as recipe inspirations go, I found some good sites to check out if you dont have 10 family recipes to share with your partner:
https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=177564.0 Craftsters favorite online recipe sites
https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=213297.0 good crock pot ideas
https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=230563.0 brand name copy cat recipe sites
https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=135179.0 vegetarian/vegan recipe ideas and sources
As far as types/varieties of recipes goes, go with your partner wants.
Cite any reference you used to gather your recipes, like a website.  I didnt want the copywrite stuff to get too confusing and this really simplifies it by giving credit where credit is due.

Copywrite Info:

Lothruin is our moderator who knows more about copyrights than anyone, and here's what she had to say:

Recipes are actually kind of weird. From the copyright office:

A mere listing of ingredients is not protected under copyright law. However, where a recipe or formula is accompanied by substantial literary expression in the form of an explanation or directions, or when there is a collection of recipes as in a cookbook, there may be a basis for copyright protection.

Basically, recipes aren't copyrightable, but their instructions might be. Emphasis on might. It depends on the format, I think. However, it is VERY important that the Craftster know that online recipes are likely to contain the same copyright protection, such as it is, as any recipes found in books. In other words, just because it is "free on the net" doesn't mean it's not copyrighted, as much as it is possible to copyright any recipe, which is less than other things. lol Like I said, recipes are weird.

So, for the posting recipes in thread, I would say, they should find a link, just like when my knitters want to post a pattern they like. If they can't find a link to the actual pattern, then we request they list the source material, but not the actual pattern.

But for the guidelines for source material for the actual cookbooks... All the recipes on FoodNetwork actually have a copyright notice. The best source is going to be old cookbooks or family recipes. There's really no way around that. I don't know what limited rights are granted to users on the recipe websites, but theoretically they have the right to print off at least one copy of a recipe for personal use, and if they choose to make a scrap cookbook for someone else out of that copy of the recipe, then I suspect that would fall under fair use. But she would probably want to research the specific rights granted by each specific website, because they'll all be a little different.

3)   You will also send you partner one crafted medium item, kitchen/cooking related. Examples: cooking apron, pot holders, set of coasters etc.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

question:  For my crafted cookbook could I do a shutterfly book? It would be my recipes and photos? Would that work?

That would be ok in my opinion, but you might want to check with your partner. It does not have to be a traditional scrapbook. Both times I've done this swap, I received a binder with a nice cover (nothing complicated though) and nicely laid out recipe pages but like i said they weren't elaborate. You just need to talk to your partner to see what they like.
