Oh my. don't go on craftster a couple of days and see what happens... you get overwhelmed with great comments! don't inflate my ego too much, folks!  Grin

Thank you so much to all of you, it's always nice to know when you know people actually enjoy what you do for shits & giggles during the weekends! Cheesy

Midnight Sun: BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA! Puns get me everytime. I never actually witnessed a train wreck myself, but I think I might have felt that "mustn't look but can't look away" feeling during britney spears' comeback. thanks!

Melladh: Thanks! I hate throwing things away. I'm a borderline hoarder, actually!

alwaysinmyroom: You're welcome, and thanks to you!

Elphelba: she's convinced even though I showed step-by-step how I made it with latex and dead fish? wow, that's faith! thanks!

Figit: Thank you! you can actually buy feejee mermaids from plenty of artists, but be prepared to fork out lots of dough.
Sarina Brewer sells some of the best I've seen, and the most historically accurate IMO. She doesn't sell any for less than 800$, though. http://web.me.com/customcreature/Site/SIDESHOW.html#5

you can also buy one at Fiendish Curiosities for 300$, although the quality is not as good as Brewer's mermaids.

Doug Higley sells some (fake looking) mermaids made out of polymer clay for around 375$ http://grindshow.com/GrindShow/Main_Exhibit_Hall.html

and last but not least, you can buy one from artist Juan Cabana, the best mermaid maker IMO. His go from 1800$ to over 10 000$. http://www.thefeejeemermaid.com/forsale.htm

so yeah, make one. it's less expensive.

Anyways, thanks to all of those I didn't take time to answer personally, even though I read and enjoyed every one of them!

Awesome! thanks for the link. I am in love with her jewelry for sure! Have you done any other peices like that or was that your first?

_assassin: thank you!^^

Figit: You're welcome! I sure do love her work, too. I worked with taxidermy before, but it's the first time I created such an hybrid.

This is perfect, and I can picture it in any sideshow.  The process pictures really helped in understanding how you got it from the humble beginnings to the finished product.

I am wildly in love with this and I need to make it

Wow, that's very good. I love the whole feegee mermaid hoax. It's my favorite exhibit at Ripley's. I've always wanted to make one myself, but you are far, far braver than I for making it out of an actual fish. Anyway, as with the "squirrel beer cozy" found here https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=387611.0 , I think this would become a lifelong quest on the part of my cat to destroy.
