I LOVE the doggie bake sale idea! Maybe at a pet store where you could also sell the postcards. I love the idea of the doggie kisses, but I think you'd have liability issues to deal with. This post makes me think about how I can do more for my local shelters since I haven't been as active. Thanks for the reminder!!

You could also get the local media involved, call and see if they'd do a short spot on the morning show where you are. people do that a lot here, pets get homes, people send donations..it's all around goodness!

ok so far we have teamed up with Petfinder, twitter, and some other vet hospitals in the area. We had a v-day/super bowl party and raised some good money. People came over and saw the puppies, some even were adopted. It was a good party I think.

hm. i'll fill this in when i think of something clever...

If there's a state college or university in your area talk to them about philanthropy. I was in a sorority for a short time and for community service they took some of the dogs out of a shelter and made a huge puppy-pen on campus. It was like a have-a-pet-dog-for-a-half-hour deal for $5, where you can play with them there or walk them etc. I thought it'd only attract a couple people but you'd be amazed at how many people showed up. All the money went to the shelter, and I think it was like 3 or 4 of the 16 dogs we brought in got adopted on the spot. A lot more than usual got adopted that week as well. (Hell, it's how I got my puppy- she unexpectedly sat in my lap and licked me. Adopted her the next day)

Anyway. Rambling, sorry. Either try that at a school or maybe getting a permit to do that at a public park? It sways a lot more people when they're actually playing with the dogs. Who can resist a wagging tail and a pair of doleful puppy eyes?

ps- the doggy bake sale idea is ADORABLE
