So is this a cut mohawk or just an inside out french braid? (great idea. I'd tease the strands before braiding to make it poufier.)

It was a regular mohawk french braided. I have since had to cut it off for job related reasons and also that I felt like growing it all out. The inside out french braid idea is a really nifty alternative for when my hair gets long again.

I could see either something draping around the front in chain or maybe a flowered covered mesh fabric. Maybe you could add some stuff to the braid to stick up in the air and make it look more faux mohawk like with clock hands / feathers. You may have to have assistance to pull that one off though. You could sew things in with yarn and big needles.
