Does anyone have a idea of a place to get higher end fur fabric? In RI I go to Lorraine's, but she has scrap bins, and it's a crap shoot as to what is there. I get a medium grade fur fabric from http://www.mendels.com/fauxfur.html that is great for my small furry monsters, but I want to make bigger creatures with better furs, that isn't too unreasonably priced.

Anyone know of something good out there? I was thinking NY or LA might have good places to go...

ohoh, if you come to new york city, go to elegent fabrics on 40th street between 7th and 8th avenues.  they have great fake fur in a huge selection of styles, mostly from europe so it's really really nice.  it is pricy, usually $30-40 dollars a yard, but the fabrics are usually very wide, over 60".  i inappropriately rub myself all over the furs when i'm in there.  oh, and they frequently have sales where i have seen the fur at under $19 a yard.

you could also try Mood Fabrics, they have faux fur sometimes and would probably mail you free swatches if you sent a business card.

also check out fabric.net. i've never used their "post for a fabric search" function but they have a lot of info!

okay, sorry for the overload but i love faux fur!

Wow, I registered on this forum just to reply to your post!! I make mascot costumes, and so I shop around a bit for furs. Here are a couple of places I buy from:

- eBay. They've actually got quite the selection!! Try searching for "fur fabric" to get the most hits for actual fabrics, instead of clothing and fuzzy lamp shades.  Tongue

- http://www.crscraft.com - This place I haven't actually ordered from, but they've got a WONDERFUL selection, and I know a bunch of people who are happy with their service.

- http://www.creationsdirect.com - This place is located in England, but they have VERY reasonable prices and low shipping rates. Plus, they respond to e-mails and are happy to answer questions! They ship pretty quickly, too. They have a lot of that mid-grade fabric you bought from that other site (and cheaper, too!) but their shaggy fur is *wonderful*.

- http://www.bearycheap.com - This site specializes in bear-making products. Another one I've not ordered from, but they also have a good selection, and they are also willing to sell in bulk. They've got some *gorgeous* fabric. Located in Australia, so don't let the prices fool you! Use the currency converter provided. Smiley

I hope those have helped!! Good luck! Smiley

Welcome to Craftster, thanks for responding to me (I was starting to think I was the only fur-crazy person here).

Those are great resources! Thanks so much! I check e-bay quite a bit and have gotten some awesome fur that way.

I am really interested in bright colors, and that British site looked great!

Thanks again!
