I've been searching the internet for some kind of guide about shipping bath and body products (soap, scrubs, salts, etc) in the US and internationally, and alas, no luck.

Here's the thing, I'm just starting to sell my goodies online- I've been selling other items like hair accessories and paper and whatnot, but I'm not exactly wise when it comes to shipping laws and legalities of it all. I use USPS and generally use Paypal's shipping label system. What is different from shipping ordinary, non-perishable items? I know there are very strict laws with food for customs and whatnot, I don't know if it's the same for these types of items as well.

I'm lost  Huh Thanks in advance for the help!

I don't think there's much of a problem unless you are shipping liquids like body sprays or something, then they want to know that there are liquids included. Just wrap everything super securely (tape bottle caps, double bag in plastic, double bubble wrap glass, etc) and be honest on your custom declarations forms and you should be fine.

The USPS actually has a great page on Mailability. Liquids are under section 2.4.

In a nutshell, always be sure that your liquids are WELL packaged. I tend to put a small bit of electrical tape around the cap (learned this from soap suppliers) and package them in a ziplock bag, so if they do happen to leak, they leak into the bag and not onto everything else.

The only time you will run into a slight problem is if you start mailing EOs, FOs or anything that can be considered hazardous (alcohols fall into this category, and there is a special sticker for perfumes and cosmetics).

As far as mailing lotions, soaps and lip balms, you should be in the clear. Smiley

Excellent Nymeria, maybe we (ie, you) could add that little nugget to the FAQ when we (you) get a chance?  Kiss
