Flower Choker - Tutorial
«
on:
April 26, 2005 05:59:44 AM »
As promised, here is the tutorial for the flower choker that I was showing some days ago.
I make the chokers mostly with felt because it does not fray, allowing it to look nice and to get done easy and very fast, and they have felt in many nice colors
So here we go:
1.
Cut little squares of felt. I used here 2 inches squares. Use more or less squares depending on the number of petals you want to have. Here I used 8.
2.
Take a square, take the right and left corners and bring them to the front, in other words, fold slightly the square on the middle (do not mark the fold).
3.
Now take the corners and bring fold them to the back
4.
Now cut the remaining felt to make a clean cut on the bottom
5.
By now iit will be looking like this:
6.
Sew the petal with a very simple stitch, just enough to keep it on shape
7.
Continue steps 2 to 5 with all the squares. At the end you will have all the little lose petals and they are ready to be sewn together...
Once all petals are ready, sew them together with simple small stitches at the bottom
8.
Now the flower is ready! at this point you can fix a little the petals with your fingers to make
them look nicer...
9.
It is time to attach the flower to the choker. For the choker you can use
a piece of felt, a ribbon, an organza ribbon or whatever you feel like. I used a kind of vinyl
ribbon that I had and used velcro at the back to open it and close it. I attached it with simple stitches.
And now embellish the flower: glue somethig to the center of the flower. I used a glue gun and
attached a little plastic brown marble, but you can add whatever: buttons, sequins, beads, fabric...
10.
And ready! This is how the choker looks like. The blue one is made with another fabric (a fraying one)
but it was moree time-consuming to make, I prefer the ones with felt
Hope that I was clear enough and that you understand my english. Feel free to ask is something is not very clear

your tutorial works perfectly!! i just made a little pink flower w/ some felt and used an orange button for the center! also..if you don't have a lot of time to sew each flower petal individually and then put them all together, you can cut off the bottoms and sew them all together at once..im sure its a little harder but im not too good at sewing multiple things so that short cut worked for me! thanks!!
here's some i've made! thanks again!!
http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/surfergirl_billy/detail?.dir=/daab&.dnm=152a.jpg
the big pink one is a pin and the little blue one w/ the pink button is a ring!

Thank you so much for the tutorial! I'm going to make so many of those! Do you suggest a certain type of fabric or felt?
Thanks again.

I used a regular generic type felt..nothing fancy!
good luck, though you shouldn't need it!

Here's my attempt, I did it from memory and I see now that I made it too tight and it doesn't sit right on my neck.
also the colors are not my first choice I just had this stuff lying around, I'll try again later.

I had to try one of these before I went to bed or I
know
I wouldn't get any sleep. I grabbed some scrap felt and made a minor adjustment to my felt skull and voila! Man these things are quick to make.
Check it out my bruthas & sistahs...

These will make the cutest hair clips. I'm gonna see how small I can make them before I gouge my eyes out with frustration.
Thank you for showing us how to do these babe!!
