I got a new sewing machine for Christmas that claimed to be heavy duty and could handle leather.  I've worked with leather in the past (see previous handbag post) and decided to try it out again.
Tried searching for leather hides and scraps on-line, but it was all just too expensive so I settled for Goodwill which ended up being a better decision anyway.  I found a long black real leather coat for only $7.99 that was sort of patchworked together, so it actually looks like I put a little more time in it than i actually did  Tongue

After cutting most of it apart I found that the sleeve was the perfect shape to make a clutch.
I just folded up the bottom of the sleeve, sewed the sides together, and then flipped the top of the sleeve over as a flap.

I resewed in the lining in place and whipped the thing together in an hour or so.

There was an extra snap (as well as some old Kleenex... eww) in the pocket so I used that as the closure.

It looked a little plain, so I made the tassel and added some chains and charms from old jewelry I never wear anymore.

What do you think?

Sooo adorable!!!  I am too clumsy to carry clutches so I'd have to add a strap of some kind, but this is totally perfect.  Love it!

Totally ingenious!  I love it, although I'm not a big clutcher.

Love your clutch!
What's awesome is that there is an abundance of those 80's jackets at the old VV Grin
You could make so many cool clutches!
Nice work vergaminic Smiley
