Hi there, mostly a lurker and I lost my old account (can't remember my email I used or anything!) so here I am.

We're trying to re-do our living room in the cheapest way possible so this is probably the first post of many.

Anyway, our current couches have to go.  Our cat was super stressed out when we first moved here and she....well had an accident on one of them.  The smell will not come out!  No to mention they are generally unattractive couches to begin with.  I have a friend who is moving out of state and she has offered us her old couch and sofa.  Only problem is that they are fake leather and her dogs have pealed up some of the leather on the cushions.

I was thinking of just buying covers for them but I think it would feel weird on leather.  I was thinking of making some covers for  just the cushions, but I wouldn't really know what fabric to use.  So would this be a decent idea?  What fabric would be most durable/comfortable?

Pictures for reference:

Thanks in advance for any advice!

why not go with the simplest route? Use black faux leather. If they are removable you can probably take them to a shoemaker who can just stitch the new fabric on top. another fix could be finding used leather coats in the thrift stores CHEAP... and using them. I have upholstered my dining chair seats using old leather coats, sems and all, I just try to arrange the seams so they are symmetrical.

Faux leather would be your best bet, it runs about 11.99 a yard on ebay. If you live near a fabric store you could cut a swatch to bring and match.
