This is seriously one of the best desserts I've ever had. It's delicious. Extreme bonus points for being quick, easy AND cheap to make. A winner all around. I've gotten more compliments on this and DEMANDS that it be made for family events than I have for anything else I've ever made.
A co-worker made it for a potluck we had back in October and I snagged the recipe from her to try out on Thanksgiving. Now I'm making 2 batches for Christmas (one for my family dinner and one for in-law family dinner) and my BIL is making some to take to HIS family's Christmas dinner. After he left our Thanksgiving dinner, my sister tells me he went over to his family and raved about my dessert for quite some time.
... and I don't even really like cream cheese.
But anyway... here's the stupid simple recipe, please try it out. It's positively delish.
* 2 8 oz Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese (Softened)
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 Tbsp vanilla
* 2 cans Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
* 1 stick butter
* 2 Tbsp sugar combined with 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon (as you can see though, I added quite a bit more. I also used the premade Cinnamon Sugar from the store and just tossed it all over... nomnomnom)
Beat cream cheese, sugar and vanilla in a bowl with a mixer. Set aside. Unroll and press 1 can of crescent roll dough in bottom of 9"x9" baking dish. Spread cream cheese mixture evenly over the top. Arrange second can of crescent roll dough on top of mixture to cover cream cheese. Melt stick of butter in microwave. Pour butter on top of crescent rolls (next time I make this, I might try doing this to the bottom layer of crescent rolls too). Sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture over all. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes in preheated oven.
And ta-da, you're done. You can eat it warm or after it's been chilled in the refrigerator. I prefer chilling and then warm to room temperature. Soooo yummy!!

For anyone else who can't get hold of the crescent dough in their country, it's a soft bread dough with a lot of butter in it. I have a recipe from my bread machine, which I have now made several times and like very much.
1 egg + enough water to equal 1 cup
3 1/4 cups bread flour
1 tsp salt
3 TBS sugar
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 tsp yeast
In my machine, you place the ingredients in order into the pot thing, then put the machine on the dough setting. It takes 1 1/2 hours and then the dough is ready to use. If you're doing it by hand just mix, knead like crazy and let it rise an hour and the results should be pretty comparable.
