This is a quilt I never wanted to make.

A friend of mine has been trying to conceive for YEARS! her and her husband decided to become foster parents.  they enrolled in the foster to adopt program (knowing full well that odds are still slim) this past spring.  they welcomed a brand new baby boy into their home. after a long summer of court dates and paternity tests and surprises the little boy they have raised for the past six months is going to live with his biological father and his wife. and by all accounts this is a good place for him to be....

my heart breaks for her.

so with her sister's help we managed to get some footprints and handprints and i made this small reminder quilt for her.  she may put it away and not think of it for years... she may soak it in tears every night for a month but he was her first...and we thought it was something she should have.

on the back i embroidered his name and birthdate.

Oh man.. My eyes totally started tearing. It makes me so angry when things like that happen. I understand that it is his biological father but it breaks my heart that your friend had to go through that. She's a very special woman though. It's a beautiful sentiment that I think in the longrun is going to be very treasured.

That's sooooo sad. Situations like this made it hard to go through adoption, but when it does work out it's so worth while. I hope they have the strength to try again, because it sounds like they really deserve to be parents. It's so nice of you to make this for them.

What a thoughtful idea, and beautiful keepsake for her.

what a lucky little boy to have been loved by them until his father could take him. what they did for him was love him unconditionally and to have started his most formative years with that kind of love will help him grow into a wonderful young man! they will certainly be blessed... what a wonderful thing you did for them.
