I got this gorgeous cotton suedette fabric at Walthamstow market back in January but I didn't have time to do anything with it until tonight. But I've had a free evening, and I've had the idea of this skirt in my head since I saw a DKNY ad with lots of models in NYC streets, all wearing box-pleat skirts, gloves, and fitted jackets. Very ladylike, but very modern.

I wasn't sure as to the best way to do the pleat until I saw a diagram from a 1940s sewing book here (go down to "Pleats in Seams") and the lightbulb came over my head. Smiley

So I modified my favorite skirt pattern, and here we are:

(sorry about the blur)

(detail of the lovely suedette, color is more accurate above)

fabric: cotton suedette (machine washable!)
pattern: very modified New Look 6843
room: messy
first wear occassion: meeting the boyfriend's parents tomorrow night!

Very flattering, and very nicely made.  And it's perfect for meeting the parents, dressy but not formal.  Great job!
