Recently I had some bad luck and lost all my belongings to an evil ex  Angry With one suitcase and the clothes on my back, I moved to southern california. I decided to take the opportunity to make myself a brand new bedroom with second hand furniture.
Even though it sucks to lose all my stuff, it makes it easier to create a new room where everything matches a specific theme (plus there's less clutter!) The best part is I don't have to compromise my design taste with anyone elses! Especially since I like to live in a room that looks like a skittles commercial...

The futon flattens into a bed... this was the only thing I bought new. I think it was worth it though  Grin

I spray painted this used dresser black (not a huge modification, but it looks 200% better than before!)

The craft corner hiding in my closet!

Here's the used bench I found. I reupholstered it with pink fabric from a thrift store and spray painted the wooden parts black. Then I stenciled a zipper print on it

I decided that instead of buying CDs or collecting records, I would collect cassette tapes. This was especially good since tapes were big in the 80s, and I LOVE the 80s! I found a bunch of tapes by Duran Duran in a thrift store. One was called "Big Thing" and when I was trying to figure out what to paint for my wall I realized that the cassete tape jacket had all the right colors. It also reminded me a little of that Anchorman quote, "I'm kind of a big deal" heehee!

Throw pillow made from thrift store items - old pillow insert and an old button-up blouse.... and Jack the Pumpkin  King! He's brand new from Disney Land Smiley

Okay, so I didn't make the lamp or anything and I didn't make the rosary... But I used to have an awesome collection of Virgin Mary statues, but sadly lost them all in the break up. I found the rosary on the side of the road yesterday and decided that it needed a home.

Thanks for looking!

You have done great work in your new place!!

That bench is stunning!

And amazing that a rosary can give a simple white lamp such a special feeling!

I have been seriously ill. I will get back to everyone to finish up all swaps and stuff. I am home now.

This is great!! Everything looks amazing. I recently moved and I am lacking the inspiration to make it "my space". You have given me some great ideas.

Beautiful room! I am sorry to hear that you lost all of your old things but you are really good at looking at the bright side of things. I once had something similar happen and for years you could hear me muttering, "I used to have one of those." So I am impressed that you are not as bitter as I was.

Great job, on the room, and your moxie- won't bag on the ex (after all, that's your job!), but you must've really, really needed to get some distance- sorry that you were in that situation (been there, WON'T do THAT again!!), but happy for you now!  Smiley And everybody's right, that bench is the best!!

BTW, "Big Thing" was kinda panned, at the time of its release, but the ballad-y stuff on it was pretty good.... Wink
