A visual attack of hyperactivity for my big girl's 6th birthday.  I have been wanting to try this kind of tilted layer cake for a while and was pleased with how easy it is!

The cakes are vanilla-chocolate swirl, made from two packet mixes.  I baked a 10cm round cake for the middle and cut the other layers from a 22cm.  They all had to be cut, crumb coated and smothered in buttercream before being assembled.  The top layers sit on a circle of cardboard and there are a couple of supporting dowels in the bottom layer to make sure the whole thing doesn't topple over.

Once it's all stacked up the fun part begins!  Miss birthday girl helped with frosting, piping, placing cachous and painting with inca gold dusting powder.

The inspiration for the cake comes from a picture on our kitchen wall, something we made with scrap paper... when asked what kind of cake she wanted for her big day, miss pointed to this and replied very seriously, 'That one!'.  We did the best we could Smiley

You did a beautiful job!  I have a book called The Whimsical Bakehouse or something like that that has a similar cake.  I bet your daughter was absolutely thrilled.
