I had a brain freeze when trying to decide on a gift for a friend's baby shower.
I had the thought of the tuxedo t-shirt turned onesie via a stencil and some paint.
Instead, I took old ties and did my first attempt at applique.

one of the ties (my favorite)

Next tie:

I found out she was decorating the room with sailboats and a nautical theme, so I decided to draw up an anchor stencil. I tried to applique this one, but I had a lot of trouble around the curves and all. So I trashed that onesie, and did another just topstitched..I guess for a more "vintage" feel

They were a hit at the shower, her whole family (who I had never met before yesterday) is already asking for me to sell them, and mommy to be is wanting to try some as well

That tie idea is awesome! Nice work.

I'm about to try embellishing some baby clothes for the first time, although for a little baby girl...
