I just got my DD an older American Girl Doll off of ebay for $10 including shipping. Somehow we got a catalog of AGD and she went crazy. But there was no way I was going crazy on my wallet for a doll!
Her 5th Bday is in Dec and I want to make her some sort of carrying case for it. I was thinking either maybe a small suitcase and make some compartments in it. Or when I go to the craft stores this weekend I was going to look to see if like Michaels had some sore of wooden box with hinges big enough and decorate it all girly..
I tried to google it but didin't come up with any homemade ones.

Any suggestions?? Thanks

Try looking for a rolling suitcase.  either a kid's size one or a 'carryon' size one.  you can then make a 'rolling' trunk.

I know it isn't homemade, but check out ebay or thrift stores for vintage carryon bags/train cases or smaller suitcases. Sometimes they are really cheap and there are compartments inside to stash doll clothes and the suitcases could even have those little buckles across the bottom to hold the doll in place when she travels. I have a fashion doll I want to get/make a case for and have been considering luggage as an option. If you want to add a homemade touch, you could re-do the inside with some pretty fabric or screenprint or paint a cute motif on the outside.
Good luck! Smiley

Ok I am probably showing my (young) age here, but I had an American girl doll growing up and was indeed in love with it. Like your little girl I got my hands on an AG catalog (then called Pleasant Company I can't believe they sold the line to Mattel!). My mom gave me an old train case and it still holds my dolls clothes waiting for my little girls to be big enough to play with them.

McCall's has a sewing pattern for a basic one.  Check out pattern #M5019.  Hope that helps!

I've been looking at ideas for a carrying case for my doll as well, but i have a ABJD... so she's much smaller.
