Took me 1 day to work this up. Drew inspiration from Pretty in Punk knit book. Didn't want to buy the book for 1 pattern. I just knitted up a regular baby ear flap hat with regular acrylic yarn (I love this yarn) Hot rose. Used Wool of the Andes from www.knitpicks.com in carnation for the hawk and trim. Still need to felt and add tassles but I  had to share!! I love this hat so much. For my best friends baby (Lena Paige) that will be born in Jan. I'm getting a head start!!

Final pic of my baby girl! Born Jan 6th!!

My friends baby Jaxon Riot was born upside down today (9-9-09)

I have been looking for a hat to make for him, I think this in red and black would be perfict! Can you post a Tute?

Here's the pattern I adjusted to worsted weight yarn. My gauge was 18s x 24r on sz US8 5mm needles. You will also need a crochet hook to make the mohawk section and finishing round the hat. I used 2 circular needles.  I started with 1 circular needle, divided and switched to 2 when I got to the decreases since I don't have any DPN. http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/advanced-techniques (look under 2 circular needles)

On the earflaps, I knitted to row 15 since I was using a smaller weight yarn.

Hat: I casted on 4 sts, knit aross my ear flap (15 sts), casted on 18 sts, knit across 2nd ear flap (15 sts), cast on 4 sts = 56 sts total

I knit 18 rows in the round.

Decreasing crown: used "baby" section and kept decreasing by k2tog until I had 8 sts.

There's your tiny ear flap hat. FINISHING: I figured out how long I wanted the mohawk and cut a bunch of tiny strips of wool. I pulled through with crochet hook and double knotted. I did 3 rows of pink on the top of the hat and crochet finished the edging. I also made Icord straps and tassles. I tried to felt the mohawk section but it didnt come out as I hoped. Still looks the same, but the mohawk is still pretty full. I live in texas so I didn't want to felt the whole hat.
