I have searched the internet and I can not find what I am looking for.
Years ago when i was in Jr high (I am 28) we took cheap bicpens and wrapped them in emboidering floss and then you kind wove and wraped another color in so that it made a name? Does anyone know what I am talking about and have any idea how to make them?
I want to make some for a funraiser for an event I am working on.

Oh wow, I used to do these!  (I'm 27, so I guess it makes sense.)  I remember that I wrote to one of the embroidery floss companies and they sent back instructions and some free floss.  I'm not sure of the company name, but I'm sure it was one of the bigger ones. Maybe try writing to a couple of the companies??
I'll due some more research & if i find anything else, I'll post again.

I had thought it was DMC embroidery floss (www.dmc-usa.com).
So I wrote them and asked since it isn't listed as a free project online. I'm awaiting a response and I'll let you guys know.

2/18/12 - I no longer have the directions for wrapped pens, I lost them several years ago. To obtain them for yourself, do like I did, contact DMC threads directly and ask for them.

I have a old free pattern at home that I picked up somewhere in my teen years on how to make names on ID bracelets or friendship bracelets with two different colors of the floss.  It sounds kind of like the same idea.  I can scan it if you want.

DMC already responded- this is what they wrote:
Hello Stephanie.
The answer to all of your questions is yes!  Yes, it was
DMC who did this.  Yes, we made up flyers of this craft and yes, you can
most certainly receive these directions!!!  Smiley  I will send you many other
craft thread project directions if you send me your complete mailing
address.  Please reference this email.

Regards,
Ivy Strausberg
DMC Consumer Support Representative

So all you have to do is write them and give them your address to mail it to.. Awesome!

Talk about super quick!
Today I received a package from DMC (by package I mean big brown postal envelope that makes it look like you're getting audited) that was filled with all sorts of projects like toothpick worry dolls, Dog collars, hair things, and the pens.
It says on the directions that you can reproduce them for instructional purposes, but the copy I received for the pens was xeroxed. So I've scanned them in so I can post them here- but I've run into a problem. I host my pics on Craftster and it has a file size limit. I'm afraid that if I make it any smaller you won't be able to read the directions.
Suggestions anyone?

I got my instructions in yesterday and I am going to try to make some this weekend.
I will let everyone know how they turn out.
Also included were the instructions for friend ship bracelets (I remember being in 4th or 5th grade, at least 15-16 years ago, when they were really popular), I think that trend should be brought back again!

The two files (one for the first page, the other for the second) comes to a total of 4.54mb. I'd like to use photbucket, but apparently it hates me. If you are willing to accept a 4 and half mb email, I'll send it so you can try and post them.

EDIT!!!!!
2/18/12
I've recently received several emails requesting to be sent the directions for these pens - to be frank I have not had the directions for several years, and no longer retain the scans - if you are interested in getting a copy, I suggest contacting DMC and requesting them as I no longer have them.

I sent an email to DMC and they replied with the patterns. Very cool, thanks for the post. One of these days I may try it, seems like a pretty labour intensive craft.
