My mom, grandma, and I have a tradition of making baby blankets for each of my kids as they are born.  Each of us make some of the blocks for a sampler and I border them and put them together.  This time, since I am having a girl I was excited to make something pink for once, but pastel really isn't my thing so I went for neon!  I made a bearghan for my last baby and had fun with it, so I reinterpreted it as a frog for this one.  My mom and grandma made the center blocks and I did the froggy parts (basically anything green).  I am 39 weeks pregnant today, so I finished just in time!

Here's the whole thing.  It was hard to get it all in the pic.  My giant belly kept getting in the way.

A couple of close-ups to show my mom and grandma's handiwork and the colors.  They really are that bright!

And one last shot of the future big brother "testing out" the afghan.

I used this pattern for a bearghan with my own modifications to make it a frog: http://www.geocities.com/cdjsimon/bearghan.html.  Yarn was Caron Simply Soft Quick in Watermelon, Grape, and Limelight and Yarn Bee Mosaic Twist in Sunrise.  The sewing together and outer border was done w/ Simply Soft Brites in Limelight.  I believe most of the patterns for the center blocks were found online.  My mom also made up some of hers.

Thanks Retro_Rose!  It didn't take as long as I thought, but I had some good help too.
I'd rather craft than go to work.

This is such a neat idea! I never even thought about animal-shaped afghans Smiley I have a few friends who are pregnant now and something similar would be a great shower gift. Thanks for sharing! And I love your color combinations!

I'd love to see what you come up with!  Sorry for the delay in replying.  Baby came the day you posted this, so it's been a busy 2 weeks. Smiley
