I was recently in the Crochet vs. Knitter's swap and was assigned to be a crocheter. I've really only knit before, only doing a few toys in crochet, so when I signed up as a swinger, I was hoping to get crochet so I could practice my skills. And practice I did.

My partner mentioned in one of our exchanges that she wanted a bicycle cape, something I was having trouble finding a pattern for in crochet. I found something similar enough in a book and copied the main shell stitch pattern, then winged the rest. I was planning on spraying it with water-proofing stuff but ran out of time, so it's more useful as a warm cloak then one for biking. It took about as long as a starghan to make, and used about as much yarn. My coworkers really loved it and wanted ones for themselves. One of them loved it so much she offered to model it for pictures.

I added the buttons as something to break up the color in the main part. I made sure they work, as well.. but I'm not sure why you'd ever button them all.

I used Vanna's Choice yarn because I love working with it, as well as the color selection. I was worried it would fall weird, but it actually looks good on most everyone that tried it on in my office (though the guys had an issue with not having any chest to fill it out). I really liked the final product and was sad to see it go, though honestly I probably would have never worn it. It's been suggested to me that I make another one in more neutral colors that everyone in my bullpen can share, just in case someone forgets their jacket one day. We'll see.

Anyway, what'd think?

I love it!  If I had one, I'd wear it all the time!  I may have to try my hand at making one for myself for the fall.  Great job, and thanks for the inspiration!!!

I think it is really great!  I would love one!  And it's a great idea for having around the office when the air conditioning has gone crazy cold!

Looking for a vintage magazine (1974 - 1978) that has a fabric nativity set w/ people and animals. An example: http://www.craftster.org/pictures/showphoto.php?photo=440861&ppuser=143144.

Wow! This is really beautiful! Love the yarn you used - I'm particularly fond of that shade of Vanna's Choice. Smiley

I really like this!  Is there any chance you would share your pattern.  I see you modified one to start, but could you share, please?  It is so pretty and cosy looking.   Smiley
