So, here's the backstory: I came back from college, and I found that in my absence my mum's become obsessed with this guy called Adam Lambert. I had no idea who this guy was, but my mum is absolutely in love! So I googled him, and it turns out he was in an American talent contest called "American Idol". We're British, so I have no idea how she even found out about this guy...  Huh Most odd.

Anyway, she loves him. And I love my mum. So I did what any good daughter would do, and embroidered her a picture of her beloved Adam:

here it is all framed (I live underground, so I had to go find a doorstep to take this photo - it's too dark in my flat):

Some close-ups:

And the technical info:

- the picture is about 11x7 inches
- I drew out the design onto tracing paper, then transferred it onto the cotton with an iron
- I painted the face with DecoArt fabric paint.
- It's worked in split stitch, back stitch, whipped backstitch, chain stitch, detached chain stitch, satin stitch, threaded back stitch, and pekenese stitch, between 1 and 6 ply floss.
- his eyes etc are done in embroidery floss.
- metallic floss is evil

And here's the photo I was working from:

Many thanks to the ladies at the "Big Project Stitchalong 2009" thread, who kept me sane...

Thanks for looking, C&C welcome!

Oh man, epic indeed! I think it's awesome. I also didn't know who Adam Lambert is until my mom became kinda obsessed with him - she'd love this! Very well done.

Thanks everyone Smiley

Blimey, is there some sort of pheramone that he gives off that draws middle-aged women like moths to a flame? Why is it always mums?

It took so long, it was a real relief to finish the darn thing (though after all the 1-ply satin stitch stars, it went a lot faster!)

This is brilliant! You did a great job - it's deliciously tacky (I hope you don't mind me saying that!)

ooooooh yes. My mum loves tacky things. It's a constant point of contention. I always swore I'd live in a minimalist sanctuary as a reaction against growing up in a house full of tat...

Awesome job! Love how colorful it is.

I don't see it either. My younger sister and my mom had a thing for him a while back too.  Huh Kinda funny considering he swings the other way.  Wink

Hehe, so true! I did consider embroidering "Too Fabulous to be Straight" across it, but then thought better of it...
