hey dudes.

so, for my birthday [which is in 4 days] i always like to try baking something new, and challenge myself instead of just making another cake (although, sometimes it's still a cake... just an unusual kind or something). anyway, this year i wanted to bake a pie completely from scratch.

so i did.

and i'm now in LOVE with pie baking. on to the pictures...

i made the crust from scratch from this recipe: http://smittenkitchen.com/2008/11/pie-crust-102-all-butter-really-flaky-pie-dough/

i looked at a lot of pie filling recipes, and made up this frankenstein recipe:

Blueberry-Peach Pie Filling

4 peaches, peeled and sliced
1 pint fresh blueberries, rinsed and drained [however, don't rinse them until you're about to mix them in]
1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup light brown sugar
3/4 c white sugar
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

mix the flour and sugars in a large bowl, making sure to get as many lumps out of the mixture as possible. add fruit, lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg and stir until fruit is evenly coated.
makes 1 9in pie.

here's the pie before i put the top crust on it. yummy fruit Smiley

i need to get a normal pie pan, as opposed to this ceramic one, cause the crimping didn't work out so well for me. so i just forked it... which i think still goes nicely with the rustic type crust that i used.
baked it for 10 min at 425 then 55 min at 350. turned the oven off and let it sit in there for about 30 min to set the filling.

here it is after i took it out of the oven:

it spewed a little bit, but i see it as a good thing! makes it look more tantalizing... hehe

i'm super proud of this, and cant wait to eat it.
thanks for looking!!

That sounds just heavenly. Maybe I will go pour the rest of the fruit salad I made yesterday into a pie crust with some butter and sugar! Oh what a lovely idea... only I don't want to turn on my oven. Its 113 outside right now! I will remember this though! Please help me remember this won't you?

What did it taste like?

It looks delish.  And you should have called it a peachberry pie.  That crust looks perfect.
