Back in April, my two cousins and I were all pregnant (all of us had our beautiful baby girls in May)!  That had me really motivated to make some really crafty and unique baby shower gifts for them.  I wanted to do something more than just a diaper cake; so I tried to think of some else along those lines ... something that looked like one thing but was composed of useful mom gifts.  May I present: laundry basket bassinets!!!  These are laundry baskets decorated to look like baby bassinets and are filled with other baby shower gifts:

I made 2 versions: one with a rounded canopy and another with a draped canopy.  Haha, don't forget, these are for holding baby shower gifts, not babies.

As for instructions, I hope I made a comprehensible tutorial:

Thanks for looking!

That's terrific.  I wish someone had done that for me, way better than a regular diaper cake!

I would love to do a swap!

What a nifty idea! My niece is expecting and I have been searching for all sorts of baby crafts, tutes or anything related to babies and I love this idea. Thanks!

Clever, crafty and chic! I would have loved to have received one of these at my baby shower.

hmm, you probably could put a little foam mattress in it and use it for a baby.

clever and so cute.

^I was going to say, I actually did use a laundry basket for my oldest sometimes.  It was convenient because I could carry him from room to room while he slept.  I just used a folded up blanket, but a foam mattress would work even better.  The way you designed this makes the idea much more attractive!

oh so adorable!  no one I know is having thier first, and around here you get a baby shower for your first, but not the consecutive kids.  but I would LOVE to recieve one of these if I was getting a baby shower this go around.  If anyone ever has a first baby that I know of, I will make one of these.  what a great gift! thanks for sharing the idea!

haha, its so funny you mention these are for baby shower gifts, not babies...  my best friends mom used to carry her around the house in a laundry basket when she was small.  my cousin came home in one ( this was waaaaay back before car seats )  and ive put my son in one when he had the sniffles and needed to be in the steam but couldnt sit up yet.. i propped the laundry around him and sat next to him reading books.

sooo cute, its going in my idea box for next baby shower.
