My boyfriend and I are getting married fairly soon when I finish my schooling next year. Our families are fairly traditional but I find traditional weddings to be boring! I want to somehow tie in our love of music as a theme. Right now I want white, silver, and different shades of purple as my colors since we are planning a spring wedding, but they could change since I have time.

Does anyone have any ideas other than music notes? I was thinking of using CDs under the flower arrangements or candles instead of those little mirrors people often use, but other than that I am stuck. We mostly listen to punk rock music and a couple of our favorite bands have some pretty good covers of older songs that are usually played at weddings. I was thinking of substituting those songs for the originals.

Any ideas would be wonderful!

Well, first off, Congratulations! You've come to the right place for lots of awesome ideas for weddings! I also have another website I frequent though, that has featured so many AWESOME and completely "offbeat" weddings. I don't know if you've heard of it, but it's called www.offbeatbride.com. There is also a book by the same name which is great, too, and I would completely recommend it if you want to have a nontraditional ceremony, especially since you have a somewhat traditional family, because it talks about how to deal with that.

Some other ways to incorporate music into the wedding would be to give the wedding cake a music theme. On the offbeat bride photo pool on flikr (it's linked to on the site) they have a wedding cake that was made to look like a guitar on one tier, and it had music notes on the other, and I think it looked like a piano on the bottom. You could do a CD with all your favorite songs as a wedding favor. Choosing music you like to walk down the aisle to instead of the traditional stuff would be another way.

I also thought of somehow using those bowls people make out of records, but I'm not sure if that'd look more like 1950ish instead of punk rock. I've also seen people incorporate skulls into the wedding, which might fit the punk rock theme a little more maybe? That's about all I can think of, but there's plenty of inspiration on here and on Offbeat bride. I also google stuff all the time when I'm looking for ideas for my wedding.
