i made these a while ago (back in May! wow how time flies!) but didn't have time to post them till now. The idea for the fruit basket theme present started off with the idea of a pair of pineapple booties, which led to the development of the watermelon bib. However the pineapple booties didn't quite work out as planned, so in the end it was replaced with a pair of strawberry "sandal" booties.

I used the Bitty Booties pattern by Heather Bailey. The booties are made of 100% thin scrap leather and suede from where I work. I punched out the little holes with a round leather punch and used a die to cut the heart shapes for the strawberries. The whole thing came together surprisingly easily on my home sewing machine. I embroidered around the opening edge of the booties, just to give it a little extra bit of girlie-ness.  Cheesy

The watermelon bib is made of cotton poly twill covered with vinyl for easier cleaning. The seeds are trapped between the layers and have a tendency to shift around... a feature I later regretted, but the father-to-be is totally enamored with it, so I guess it's fine Grin I made the pocket a little wider than the bib, so that the pocket stays open and actually catches food. The neck opening looked very small (it's supposed to close with a snap) so i added some ties using left over bias binding. I thought it looked a bit odd, but the mother-to-be thought it was very hip and stylish... Grin Yay for creative problem solving!

'scuse the mess in the background of the pictures... this is what happens when the whole basement is your crafting domain (i tend to spread out onto every free surface)
Thanks for looking!

Such a creative gift! It's super cute. I never thought of a fruit theme related to babies but I love it!
