I use usually an H or a g hook, but then I crochet tightly. Go for whatever looks and feels comfortable for you.

But hook size and tension are inter-related. If you do some samples and find that you like a certain number of stitches per inch, it's easiest to adjust your hook sizes up or down to make that gauge easy to work. (If your hook is too large, you'll have to work REALLY tight and it can tire out your hands. If it's too small, the hook will keep splitting the yarn as you try to pull it through loops.)
