I made this dress intending it to fit my great neice who was born in Feb. Any way I cut it out on the smallest size the pattern came in. After I got it cut out I though it looked a little big. Though to myself it's just me and went ahead with making the dress. Well upon completion I found that I was right, it's far to big for Emily. I had my daughter who is 2 try it on and it fits her great! So off to find something else to make for Emily instead. At least it looks cute on Pea!

That is super cute.

The same thing happened to me, I made a dress for my little cousin and it turned out way too big. She told me the other day that it still doesn't fit her and I gave to her a year ago.

I made my DD a jacket when she was 6 mos old, should have fit her fine, she's 2 now and it fits perfectly, pesky comercial patterns.

It's an adorable dress btw and your DDs adorable also.

Yeah any of the 6m stuff I made when I first started sewing again for the twins when they were about 8 months old... yet they are JUST getting into it at 2!  The paper patterns like Simplicity, McCalls, Newlook & Butterick tend to run very big most of the time.  Kwik Sew, Burda & Vogue are better, though not great still, at least they are CLOSE to the measurements they put on the envelope!    It looks very cute though!

Very cute!

Yeah, commercial patterns sizing is usually off.  Very frustrating!

Very cute!

I've had the pattern sizing issues too.  I have 2 great patterns right now that I'm making the 9 month size for my 16 month old DD and it's still a little big.  At least I'll be able to use the patterns for a long time.

The best part is that just when you think you have patterns figured out you come to find that while kids run many sizes big, adult ones run many sizes small....grrr
